Breaking Free from Myths, Manipulation and Misperceptions

 

Uses uses examples from entertainment and print media sources to illustrate common advertising techniques.

During six (6), class sessions, students will: 

  •  Receive valuable health education    
  •  Compare tobacco industry lies with factual health information,
  •  Critique various examples of tobacco  advertising, and
  •  Develop a positive, non-smoking “advertisement” of their own.

Demonstrates tobacco industry advertising campaigns to recruit new smokers.

Increases students’ ability to recognize the advertising techniques of:    

    • normalization
    • glamorization
    • branding
    • promotion 
    • frequency

Promotes and supports social norms that delay early initiation of tobacco & marijuana use.

Provides students with accurate health information related to tobacco & marijuana use and health consequences.
