A unique service learning opportunity for your students & school community
I was very fortunate to spend three weeks in Guatemala in the winter of 2009. During my travels, I met some amazing people and experienced many things. These experiences touched me deeply.
Upon returning to New York, I knew that I wanted to do whatever I could to ease some of the struggles faced by the children and families in Guatemala.
I also knew that I wanted to help inspire and empower young people to develop their compassion and awareness of the world around them – both locally & globally.
And thus, the Guatemalan Action Project was born!
Through this unique program, students will:
- Experience the beautiful country of Guatemala via some amazing photography
- Learn about the people, crafts, music and history of Guatemala
- Create and complete a community service project to benefit one of the organizations serving the children & families of Guatemala – a country with a 90% poverty rate
- Develop numerous skills (organizing & planning, public speaking & presentations, etc.)
- Experience the joy and self-pride in knowing they have helped make a difference
Feel free to visit the Guatemalan Action Blog to see photos from schools that have participated within the Hudson Valley.
Proceeds from the students’ fund raising are donated to
Amigos de Santa Cruz is a truly remarkable organization changing lives within Santa Cruz la Laguna – a small Guatemalan Village on Lake Atitlán.
